High potential and gifted education (HPGE)

Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.

At CPHS, we are proud to offer a comprehensive Enrichment Program that broadens opportunities for students to develop their skills and passions. Students can apply for one of seven dynamic programs designed to foster growth and excellence:

Additional opportunities include Run Beyond, Duke of Edinburgh, accelerated classes, and a variety of student-led clubs, ensuring a rich and engaging experience for all students.

At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.

Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

Recognising potential and developing talent

Our teachers find potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be.

Tailored lessons

Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.

Rich opportunities and activities

Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.

Opening doors to wider experiences

Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom

Our classroom practices support and extend high potential and gifted students:

We offer differentiated tasks that adjust pace, complexity and higher-order thinking.

We provide strengths-based feedback and goal setting.

We offer an extension class (by application) in Year 7-10.

Our teachers engage in professional learning to support the diverse needs of all students, including our high potential and gifted learners.

Collaborative Projects provides students the platform to develop creativity, critical thinking, and collaboration by working in small groups on real world challenges.

We are delighted to announce the introduction of a Year 7 Extension Class at Cambridge Park High School for 2026. This class is designed to provide a challenging and supportive learning environment for students who demonstrate high potential, curiosity, and a strong commitment to learning.

The entry into the Extension Class is competitive, and all applicants will need to meet the selection criteria to be offered a place. We encourage you to carefully consider whether this program aligns with your child’s learning needs and aspirations.
